Heavy periods are a common problem affecting up to one in five women during their lifetime. Many don't realize that this problem can be treated and accept it as part of "being a woman." Endometrial ablation involves the destruction of the lining of the uterus. After placing the patient under anesthesia, a narrow instrument is passed through the cervix into the uterine cavity.
